Monday, July 20, 2015

If any of our Over-35 members would like to bring a team together and participate in the below event please contact Terry Robb or Tony Close. A prefect opportunity to roll back the years and prove all those "high stool" stories were in fact true :)

A Chairde

Saturday 8th August will see the inaugural seven's tournament co-hosted by Rossa and Sarsfields in memory of our close friend and Clubman Ronan Boyle.

This will be part of the Belfast Feile and insurance will be covered by them. The teams confirmed so far are as follows:
Rossa Shaws Road
Rossa Falls Road
St Galls
St Johns
Tir Na Nog
Sarsfields
Glenravel
Gort Na Mona

The matches will begin at 12:00 midday so can teams turn up at 11:30 to ensure changed etc and warmed up ready to play. Changing facilities available at Rossa and Sarsfields.

Only those born before 31st December 1980 are eligible to play ie those in their 35th year and above.
We would encourage that teams are strict about this as the point in this tournament is to promote men's health.

Matches will take place at Rossa and Sarsfields and referees have been arranged.
Each team will be guaranteed at least four games. Matches will be across half pitches and will be 15mins duration each (two 7mins 30sec half's).

Two groups of 4 teams will play each other once. The top two teams in the groups will play off in a semi final and then the winners will play for the Ronan Boyle Cup while the bottom two teams will play off in the same format to compete for the Ronan Boyle Shield. Trophies are kindly being donated by Ronan's family. We would aim to have the finals wrapped up by approx 3pm and a short presentation of the trophies by Ronan's family to the winning captains afterwards either on Rossa Park or in the social area.I would anticipate that the social area may be open during the tournament for refreshments (and maybe a beer or two) and Gareth has organised for a happy hour at Sarsfields from 5-6pm....Mal Carabine has been contacted about the Lodge unofficially afterwards to continue celebrations.

I have organised for a doctor and a nurse to do men's MOT's for over 35's....so players and mentors supporters etc can come along to the handball court in Rossa to get their Blood Pressure checked, diabetes screen, body mass index check, and smoking cessation advice and general health advice from professional staff. I have contacted chest heart and stroke NI and am awaiting word back from them re leaflet pack provision etc.

Looking forward to it....
