Minors start the season with a win!

Kickhams minor footballers got their season off to the perfect start, with a very hard earned victory against a very well fancied st Endas at Hightown, last Tuesday, in what can only be described as blizzard conditions at times. Starting with a very strong breeze, the lads went into A 2 point lead early on only to be pegged back to one point all before the game was ten minutes old.

The boys then started to find their feet with Donal Carey and Niall McAuley holding midfield .The half started to go in kickhams favour, with Jake McAteer moving to full back and Matthew Rogers going to centre back, the team looked better balanced. Up front Kevin Small and Liam Quinn were always a danger and the presence of Connor Small at centre forward the team started to put a few scores on the board only to be hit by a very well worked goal by St Endas, as a result the half finished all square 0-06 to 1-03.

The boys knew they were in for a very difficult half hour against the breeze and probably the best minor team in the county over the last few seasons. However the guys put in a very determined 30 mins with Malachy McIvor, Teirnan McAteer and John McAuley the pick of the bunch in the first ten minutes. Micheal Carey-Small and Cormac Rice put in a great shift until the latter was replaced by Dermot carey. ciarin McAteer was working overtime supporting midfield.

After a very tough 20 mins some of the fellas began to tire so the full complement of subs were used. Ronan Burke, after running himself into the ground was replaced. Kealin McCann, Dominic Muholland came on, Malachy McIvor Liam McCann came on for Micheal Carey-Small and finally Killian Burke replaced Niall McAuley at midfield.
The subs that weren't used that night were Brian McAteer, Jamie McCann, Shane O'Hara and Aidan McAuley.

With the game nearing the end and Creggan down by two points, a superb move up the field involving no less than seven players ended in a fantastic goal by Connor Small. With the last kick of the game St Endas had a free 40yds out to level the game, but fortunately they hit the post....GAME OVER! and two hard earned points.

WHAT A GREAT START!

Kind thanks to the Minor mentors for the report...keep up the great work!
