South West Feile na nGael Skills Final

The South West Feile na nGael Skills final took place at Tir na nOg, Randalstown on Saturday. As befitting the event the sun shone and so did the level of skills shown by all the competitors.

A record number of 12 hurlers from six clubs entered:·
Callum Scullion & Brian Og O’Neill (St Marys, Rasharkin)
Michael Martin & Conor O’Kane (St Ergnats, Moneyglass)
Seanahan Duffin & Paddy Graffin (Sean Stinsons)
Liam Quinn & Dermot Carey (Kickhams, Creggan)
Conor McAreavey & Ruari Moran (St Josephs, Glenavy)
Tiarnan Heffron & Declan Mallon (Tir na nOg, Randalstown)

Thomas McCann (SW Hurling Development Officer) and John O’Boyle (SW Treasurer) organised and ran the competition and both stalwarts were delighted to see the great turnout and the high level of skills shown by all the competitors, none more so than those displayed by Conor O’Kane from Moneyglass, who at only ten years old was the youngest hurler taking part.

After a pulsating competition in which only six points separated 2nd, 3rd & 4th the final results were:
1.       Dermot Carey (Kickhams, Creggan)
2.       Liam Quinn (Kickhams, Creggan)
3.       Declan Mallon (Tir na nOg, Randalstown)
4.       Tiarnan Heffron (Tir na nOg, Randalstown)

Well done to all the competitors for taking part and to Thomas McCann and John O’Boyle for organising and promoting the event which aims to highlight the key skills needed to improve the standard of hurling within the south west and throughout the county. Thanks also to the parents and clubs for continuing to support this unique and fun event.
