U14 Hurlers under the Spotlight
Tuesday, November 20, 2012
Last Thursday evening the U14 hurlers retained the Scullion Hurls 7-a-side crown, however they didn’t get things all their own way.
Having won the same competition the previous year under the flood lights of Casement, this year they were under the flood lights at a wintery St Mary’s, Ahoghill.
They qualified for the semi-finals / finals of the ‘B’ competition by virtue of a blitz held in Woodlands a number of weeks earlier.
In the first ‘B’ semi-final St Pauls beat All Saints, Ballymena.
In the second ‘B’ semi-final Kickham’s beat Ballyvarley, Co. Down
At the end of the first half of the ‘B’ final, St Pauls held a strong 5 point lead.
Immediately after the restart St Pauls goaled again to stretch their lead to 8 points.
However, Kickham’s put in a high octane final 6 minutes, to turn the game on its head and win by 5 points.
After the game Michael Scullion (Scullion Hurls) presented the winner’s trophy to the Kickham’s team captain, Aidan McAuley.
Kickhams Creggan team: Matthew Rodgers, Conaill Prenter, Kealan McCann, Ciaran Rice, Kevin Small, Sean Kelly, Liam Quinn, Dermot Carey, Aidan McAuley (captain), Oisin McAteer, Tiarnan McAteer
