Reigning champions Creggan started their defence of the Laverty Cup by defeating last years beaten finalists Aldergrove in the first round at home.

Creggan were meeting the men from the airport for the second time in a month with the outcome being the same. The boys took a while to settle into their stride in the first half but goals from Damien McLarnon and an opportunist one from a 45 by Paddy McAuley kept Creggan in touch at half time.

The second half saw some great defensive work by BJ McKeown and Ricky Johnston in fullback with Fearghal McGrenahan, Aidan Maguire and Paul Nelson sewing things up in the half back line.

There was some fine fielding from Paddy and Seamus Allen in the first half with Hugh McNulty stepping up to the mark in the second.

All the forwards were in good form with Ordhran McLarnon as usual dictating things. Damien McLarnon hit a few with his left and Micheal Sweeny shrugged off his marker to hang one in the net.

With a strong bench Cathal and David followed by Conor and Stephen all played their part.

Creggan will obviously come up against stronger opposition in the next few weeks but these are a good bunch of lads and the future of the club looks bright.
