Ulster Championship Junior Hurling Final
6 November 2011

Kickhams Creggan 0-10
Burt (Donegal) 0-10

Creggan competed in their first ever Ulster Final on Sunday when the Club's hurlers took to the field in Clones to take on Burt of Donegal.

Burt, who are considered seasoned campaigners in this competition, understandably started as favourites for the title and they certainly proved worthy opponents as they dominated the opening half to lead 0-06 to 0-02 at the break.

Creggan's scores came from a Conor McCann '65' and a Marty Johnston point from wing half back. To further compound Kickhams' slow start midfielder Sam Maguire got his marching orders in the first half after receiving two yellow cards....but this served to even up the sides as Burt were numerically handicapped also in the opening period.

Strong words were required at half time and strong men were needed for the second 30, and Creggan had both in abundance as they took a stranglehold of the game from the second throw-in to outscore their opponents 8 points to 4.

Aidan McKeown and Conor McCann shared the spoils with Aidan getting a pair of points and ace marksman McCann claiming the other 6.

Indeed Creggan only ever took the lead in the game in the closing minutes after Conor pointed with precious little time remaining. With nerves jingling, nails bitten and with the Creggan support willing the final whistle it was announced that 2 minutes extra were to be played.

Unfortunately for the Kickhams lads, Burt were awarded a free in front of the posts 3 and a half minutes in to time added on from which they made no mistake to tie the game up at 10 points apiece.

The long whistle blew from Stevie's puck out and now both teams will resume battle again on the 20th with time and venue to be decided.

Our lads put on a tremendous show and the support that travelled the long distance did themselves and the team pround...well done to one and all!
