All County Senior Football Championship
Preliminary Round
8 August 2010
Kickhams Creggan 1-19
St. Pauls 0-09
Kickhams comprehensively disposed of St. Pauls in this
preliminary round fixture of the 2010 Championship at Moneyglass on Sunday
evening. The winning margin was 13 points and this did not flatter us at all,
as Creggan were sharper and hungrier to win this match from the first whistle.
Playing towards the chapel end in the first half Creggan
registered the first score of the night from the boot of Hugh McNulty via a
free. This set the tone for the evening for Big McAnulty as he was deadly from
place balls, notching a tally of 9 points by the close of business.
The St. Pauls attacks and scores were sporadic as Creggan
dominated the midfield, allowing our attacks to develop, which more often than
not resulted in a point. The major score of the game came from a great surging
run from wing half back from debutant Ricky Johnston. He exchanged passes with
Odhran McLarnon and rampaged through the defence to emphatically hammer to the
net.
At half time Creggan were 8 points to the good on a score
line of 1-10 to 0-05.
The second half was basically more of the same as Creggan
outscored their opponents and dominated the resulting 30 minutes of play. This
cushion gave Creggan the luxury of utilising their bench as M.A McNicholl,
David McGuckin, Marty Johnston, Leigh Martin and Ciaran McCartney all got some
game time.
St. Paul’s were reduced to 13 men in the second period as
moments of indiscipline cost them in personnel on the field, and after that
there was no hope of any comeback.
Creggan now progress to the quarter final stage where they
will meet Cargin at a venue yet to be confirmed. This will be a much sterner
test as old rivalries kick in once again in what will surely make for an
extremely exciting match.
