ACFL Div. 4
11 April 2010
St. Pauls 2-08
Kickhams Creggan 1-07
Creggan Reserves suffered their first league defeat of the season at the hands of St. Pauls on Sunday. The conditions were hot as the team headed for Belfast in anticipation of a tough match and so it turned out that way.
Creggan dominated the first half and really should have been in total control of the scoreboard but if you don't take your chances when they come along then it usually comes back to bite you! This was all too true as Creggan worked two one on one chances and failed to take any thing from them whereas St. Pauls had 2 shots at goal and converted them both.
Creggan went in at half time trailing 2-02 to 0-05, even though it took the home team 20 minutes to register their first score of the game.
The balance was addressed early in the second half as Kickhams were in no mood to be rolled over. A goal and 2 points within ten minutes of the restart put the visitors one point ahead, but try as they did, no further scoring was registered by the men in G & G.
The team battled gamely and really should have added a few more scores but careless mistakes in front of the posts contributed to the lack of points added. A lot of good effort was put in to the match and the team was disappointed to be going home empty handed, but there are lessons to be taken from the defeat.
It's a busy schedule for the Div. 4 team as the games come thick and fast starting with a long away trip to Ballycastle on wed night. The side will be determined to get back on the winning track again to continue their assualt on the league.
