Ulster U21 Football Club Launch & Draw
Thursday, December 31, 2009
The draw for the Inaugural Ulster U21 Club Football Championship took place in the Elk on Wednesday 30th December. This is a new-born competition and will be hosted by our Club in the months of January and Feburary 2010.
The event was really well supported and extremely well presented in the surroundings of the Elk Conservatory with a host of big names such as Antrim Manager Liam Bradley, Paddy Crozier, and Mickey Moran in attendance.
Elk owner Dick McKeague welcomed everyone to to his establishment before Antrim Vice-Chairman Jim Murray and Ulster Council's Michael Hasson spoke about the importance of providing more comprehensive and competitive U21 football and rubber stamped their support for the fledgling competition.
The serious business of making the draw for the Paddy McLarnon Memorial Cup then got under. It was made by the late former Creggan and SW Antrim Board Chairman's wife Josephine along with current Club Chairman Tony McCollum, with it developing as follows...
Crossmaglen meet the Fermanagh champions in the preliminary round who will be representated by either Belcoo or Tempo, with the winners paired with the Cavan Champions in the first round proper.
The Donegal representatives are pitched against Derry Championship winners Foreglen, with the Donegal competition still in it's first round stage, a nomination may be required.
Creggan find themselves up against the Down winners of either Burren or Longstone (this final is yet to be played), and finally Tyrone kingpins Omagh with newly installed manager Paddy Crozier at the helm facing off against Scotstown of Managhan.
All very intriguing and mouth watering ties I think you will agree, with a feast of quality football in the offing in the new year.
A massive thanks to all who organised and attended the event, especially those who came from far afield to lend their support and make it the success it was.
