SW Antrim Minor (Laverty Cup) Championship Semi-Final
13 October 2009

Kickhams Creggan 2-16
Sean Stinsons 1-09

Creggan reached the final of the Laverty Cup last night after disposing of a plucky Sean Stinsons under lights at Whitehill. A bout of flu within the camp resulted in a number of personnel changes and it was one of these, young Oran McCann, who caught the ball from the throw in and hared straight for the posts unchallenged to cooly slot over the first score of the night.

Stinsons proceeded to have the better of the exchanges for the next 20 minutes or so as they chalked up a goal and 3 points with only a Damian McLarnon free kick in response from Creggan. With the game in danger of slipping away from the Laverty Cup holders, Creggan upped their game and fired over 4 unanswered points, 3 from Conor McCann and another McLarnon free, to bring the game level. Stinsons replied though as they knocked over a free themselves to inch into the lead once again. With time almost up in the first half, captain Ferghal McGrenaghan raced out of defence soloing half the length of the field with the ball. He passed it on to Aidan Mckeown who in turn found a screaming David McGuckin and David did what he does best...smashed to the roof of the net. The short whistle went with Creggan up by 2 at half time.

In to the second half, and it transpired to be dominated by the G&G for much of the remainder of the game. Stinsons recorded 5 points to their tally whereas Creggan popped over scores with regularity over the 30 minutes. Aidan & Conor getting a brace apiece, David adding another 3 and Damian, Niall & Fintan recording points each. The best was left to the end though as Tiarnan "The Cobra" McLarnon, as he so often does, found the net after a great piece of work by fellow sub Fintan Burke.

So, for the second year in a row Creggan are in the final of the Laverty Cup, and for the second year in a row Creggan are going for the clean sweep Treble and for the second year in a row every other team in Antrim are second...
