Coalisland U21 Seven-a-Side Competition

Tuesday, September 1, 2009

Creggan U21's travelled to Coalisland to participate in their inaugural U21 seven-a-side competition on Saturday.

Due to a number of late call offs by a few of the originally participating teams, new invites were issued and a groups re-draw was made to determine the playing schedule.

Creggan were drawn in Group 2 and had to do battle against Fermanagh side Tempo, Derry U21 Champions Desertmartin, Tyrone U21 holders & home club side Coalisland and an interesting clash with our management team's club, Ballinderry. Luckily for Creggan, we had a stand-in management team of Tommy "Mickey" McCann and his sidekick Tiernan "John" McLarnon to take the reins for that clash...

In the group stages, Creggan had comfortable enough victories against Tempo, Desertmartin and Ballinderry (well done Moran & Morrison!) and were defeated by eventual competition winners Coalisland.

Coming out of the group as runners-up, Creggan were pitched against Armagh U21 Champions Carrickcruppen in the semi-final but were unfortunately defeated on a score line of 1-10 to 1-08.

A great day was had by all the lads and managers in what was a well run and enjoyable tournament. Many thanks to Coalisland for being extremely hospitable hosts and of course to our very regular band of merry supporters who travel to support all the creggan teams on show.
