ACFL Div. 1
27 July 2009

Kickhams Creggan 2-10
Rasharkin 2-05

In our last league game before championship this coming Saturday we recorded another home victory and leapfrogged a couple of places in the league table.

The game, played in slippery conditions, started with great pace and an early fortunate strike by Conor McCann got us off to a flier. A nice point from Leigh Martin and we were 4 up before Rasharkin got the ball over the half way line.

The next 15 minutes Rasharkin took control and scored 3 points, 2 of them from frees after some sloppy defending. Leigh Martin and Johnny McAleese exchanged frees to leave the score 5 to 4 to Creggan. An angled point from Sam Maguire and a fisted effort from Oliver Duffin finished the first half scoring.

HT - Kickhams 1-04, Rasharkin 0-05

Second Half aided by a strong breeze Creggan started to take control and points from Leigh Martin(4), 1-01 from Conor McCann and a point from Sam Maguire put us 2-10 to 0-05 up.

Last 10 minutes of the second half we fell asleep and maybe thoughts of the championship game were creeping in and we conceded two soft goals, one of which was scored direct from a 13 metre free.

Is there any coincidence that this sloppiness crept in to our play with the introduction of Adrian Dougan from the subs bench for the final 10 minutes? ‘Demolition Dougan’ as he insists on being called, seemed to cause more havoc amongst his fellow forwards than actual damage to the Rasharkin rearguard! No doubt though ‘Demo’ will get his head together for Saturday and do what he does best...
