All County Reserve Championship
8 July 2009

Rasharkin 0-10
Kickhams Creggan 2-07

Creggan secured passage to the semi-final stage of the Reserve Championship at Rasharkin on Wednesday evening.

Playing against a team that gained promotion to Division 3 last year, and with our Division 4 status, this was always going to be a tough challenge for Creggan.

Nonetheless, the team were not overawed and set about the task with gusto. Playing against a breeze in the first half Creggan just about edged it on possession and attacks and played some decent football to go in at half time leading by two points, 1-04 to Rasharkin's 0-05. Creggan's goal coming from Benny Devlin who calmly slotted to the net after being found in the square by Eunan McAteer.

With belief that Creggan could go on to win this match, the tone was set when Teddy McKeown pointed early in the second half to extend the visitor's lead. Rasharkin, as expected did not lie down and kept chipping away at the deficit with points, as did Creggan. The major score of the second half was a goal from Michael Maguire who robbed a defender of the ball and smashed to the net to give Kickhams a comfortable advantage.

A number of substitutions were made and and the game was seen out relatively comfortably although there was a nasty injury to full forward Benny Devlin who had to be taken straight to hospital with a shoulder injury. The extent of the damage is not known yet but we all wish him a speedy recovery.
