ACFL Div. 1
05 July 2009

Kickhams Creggan 3-08
St. Galls 1-12

Two goals and a point in the last quarter from Sam Maguire ensured a two point victory for Creggan in what was a very exciting game right from the throw in at Páirc Uí Ciceam on Sunday afternoon.

Creggan controlled the first half proceedings aided by a slight breeze.  Scores from Leigh Martin (3), Thomas McCann (1) and a well deserved goal from Conor McCann put us in the driving seat heading towards half time.  A few lapses in concentration and a well taken goal from Ciaran Gallagher gave St Galls a much needed lift going into the break.
Half Time: Kickhams 1-04, St. Galls 1-04

Into the second half and St Galls started the brighter as four early scores from CJ McGourty (2), Ciaran McGourty and county star Aodhan Gallgher put some daylight between the sides.
Creggan  continued to battle away and they worked really hard all over the pitch.  Hugh McNulty scored three nice frees but further points from the McGourty brothers still kept a goal between the sides.
In the last 10 minutes Creggan continued to press and we got our rewards when Sam Maguire scored two goals; one finishing off a nice move and the second he found himself in open space with no one marking him.  Sam sandwiched these two goals with a very brave fisted effort under pressure from St Galls stopper Ronan Gallagher.  The Milltown men tried frantically to snatch the victory with a late goal but great defending ensured we held on for the two points.
