NAHL U-16
Div. 2
20 April 2009
Kickhams 1-05
Glenshesk 4-19
As the score suggests, a total mis-match and
why? Because an amalgamated club can play in a lower division!! Forget the sob
stories about a team not showing up the week before (after all it was Easter
Monday) and we only want a game of hurling, considering 1 sub was used in a
game which realistically was over after 10 minutes. Not forgetting your 4 subs
on the bench who only came for the drive. The game itself was played 13-a-side,
until Creggan were reduced to 12 players after Oran McCann had to with draw
from the game due to injury. Management
were glad to have Fintan Burke back (Thanks Gail) and could not fault any one
of players for battling hard and not giving up to the last whistle.
Scorers: Kevin Rice (1-1); Oran McCann (0-2);
Declan McCann (0-1); James Carey (0-1).
NAHL U-16
Div. 2
4 May 2009
Kickhams 2-08
Rasharkin 3-04
As the boys had no game the previous week due
to the Tir na nOg pitch being unplayable, it was the first time there were
16 players available for selection. Our opponents though only had 13 players so
under by law a league game can take place at 13-a-side.
It took the Creggan boys a good six minutes to
settle before Ciaran McCann batted the sliothar above his head to catch the
keeper off his line for the first score – a goal. This was quickly followed up with a point
before Rasharkin got their first point.
Two more Creggan points were countered with a
Rasharkin score. Two more Creggan points and a Rasharkin point with yet again,
a further two points to one point to bring the half time score Kickhams 1-05 to
Rasharkin 0-03.
At the start of the second half and within 5
minutes, Rasharkin had bagged 2 goals and a point to lead the game for the
first time. The Creggan wake up call then came with S.W. Feile skills winner
Ruairi McCann scoring a goal and namesake Oran converting two frees, putting
Creggan back in the driving seat and leading 2-08 to Rasharkin 2-04.
The Creggan backs were under pressure and were
weathering the storm until a Rasharkin solo run resulted in a goal, with no
Creggan player making a challenge to end the scoring in the match.
Creggan missed a lot of scores from play and
should have had more on the scoreboard throughout the duration of this match.
Good to have Conal back from injury and alongside him Ronan Devlin cleaned up a
lot of Rasharkin attacks. The half back line of Conleth, Fintan and Conor were
solid as ever. The mid field pairing of Declan and Murtagh complemented each
other very well and the forwards tried hard with the top scorer of the day
Ruairi McCann with 1-02.
Scorers: Ruairi McCann
(1-2);Ciaran McCann (1-0); Oran McCann (0-4), Declan McCann (0-2).
