U16 NAHL Div. 2
13 April 2009

Sean Stinsons 1-09
Kickhams Creggan 2-09

Creggan travelled to Ahoghill for their first league game with 14 players on Easter Monday. Their opponents had 13 players, so Creggan had a fresh pair of legs on the bench. Two fouls committed in the Creggan back line early in the game gave Stinson’s a 2pt lead. Still under pressure Creggan also conceded a goal, trailing 1-02 to no score, before Declan McCann opened the Creggan account with 1pt after a fine solo run.

With goal mouth scrambles at both ends, wides by both teams and good scores taken, Creggan had played against a slight breeze and went in at half-time losing 1-03 to 1-07 in Stinson’s favour.

At the start of the second half and after another solo run, Declan opened the scoring again with another point. In a 15 min period, Creggan had rattled up 1-05 without reply to take the lead 2-08 to Stinson's 1-07.

Stinson’s scored only 2 points in the second half before James Carey got the last score of the day.

This was an enjoyable game played in the best of spirit by two committed teams which pleased the Creggan management. The half back line of Conleth, Conal and Ronan cleaned up alot of loose ball. Declan and new kid on the block Murtagh McKeague worked hard in midfield, whilst the half forward McCann trio of Ruairi, Oran and Conor ably assisted by James Carey all got on the score sheet.

Declan McCann (1-4), Ruairi McCann (1-1), Oran McCann (0-2), Conor McCann (0-1), James Carey (0-1).
