ACFL Div. 4
15 March 2008

Lámh Dhearg 3-06
Kickhams Creggan 2-08

Creggan reserves suffered their first defeat of the season on Sunday at the hands of Lámh Dhearg. The game was played at Hannahstown and in truth Creggan will be bitterly disappointed that they did not come away with the two points on offer.

Playing with the aid of a considerable breeze in the first half, Kickhams had most of the play and possession which they used to good advantage. Balls were played in to the full forward position where Martin McCann was winning possession and laying off to the onrushing forwards and scores were tacked on with regularity. Certainly half forward Benny Devlin had has shooting boots on as he kicked a number of nice frees from distance.

Lámh Dhearg had a number of forays up the pitch and they clinically punished the space they were given by netting two extremely soft goals from a Creggan point of view. In truth Creggan made it hard on themselves with some wayward passing and defending.

Damian McLarnon got a goal back for the G&G in the first half to leave Creggan two points to the good at half time.

Half Time: Lámh Dhearg 2-02, Kickhams Creggan 1-07

The second half got off to a disastrous start for Creggan and virtually from the throw-in Lámh Dhearg raced down the field and fired to the net to put them in front.

Creggan didn't let their heads drop though and they continued to battle away against the breeze with points being traded by both sides. Just when Creggan needed a lift, that man McLarnon did it again when he found the net at the business end of a flowing move to edge Creggan in to the lead.

The game was all up for grabs in the final minute with the scores level and it was the home side that managed to get the game clinching point with virtually the last kick of the game.

Alot of effort was put in to this game with no reward but the lads will pick themselves up and go at it again at home to St. Johns on Sunday 22nd.
