O'Cahan Cup Rd. 1
28 Feburary 2009
Ahoghill 0-10
Kickhams Creggan 0-11
Creggan opened up their early season O’Cahan Cup match with a battling win over neighbours Ahoghill at the St. Marys venue.
An injury time score from Mark Dougan ensured victory for Creggan in what was a tough encounter where a number of Creggan players shipped some heavy tackles and had to come off injured. Most notably the McCann brothers Odhran and Caolan. Hopefully they will be ok and can resume training soon.
Creggan lined up with a number of surprising personnel and positional changes with Adrain Dougan slotting in to the half back line and Seamus Allen handed the number 3 shirt. Also in to the starting line up came the Maguires Aidan and Sam who both performed well.
The game was played in heavy conditions with a stiff breeze which favoured the home side in the first half and Ahoghill were to rue a number of missed goal chances that could have turned the game in their favour. In the finish up they will be disappointed they didn’t get at least a draw to take the game in to extra time.
Impressive performances from Creggan were Adrain Dougan, Aidan Maguire, Ricky Johnston and Leigh Martin, with second half subs Hugh McNulty and Mark Anthony McNicholl both making an impact up front.
Half Time Score – Ahoghill 0-05, Kickhams Creggan 0-06
Full Time Score – Ahoghill 0-10, Kickhams Creggan 0-11
Creggan will now meet the winners of Aghagallon and Dunloy at home in the 1/4 Final.
Kickhams Team: Leon Bonnes, Caolan McCann (Fergal McGrenaghan), Seamus Allen, Ricky Johnston, Aidan Maguire, Odhran McCann (Dominic Totten), Adrian Dougan, Hugh McKay, Oliver Duffin, Sam Maguire (M.A McNicholl), Mark Dougan (0-07(2f)), Conor McCann, Peter McCollum (0-02), Ciaran McCartney (Hugh McNulty), Leigh Martin (0-02).
Next match is away to Ballymacnabb in the Ulster League on Sunday 8th March.
