ACFL Div. 5
4 October 2008
Kickhams Creggan 0-13
St. Brigids 0-04
Creggan hosted St. Brigids on Saturday afternoon in Division 5 with the Belfast side sitting in 3rd place in the league, a tough game was anticipated. The first half was tough but that was more down to the horrendous playing conditions making the match a leveller. Surface water and a boggy pitch was the platform for the entertainment on the day.
The half time score was 0-04 to 0-02 in favour of the G&G so that should tell the story itself. Creggan raised four white flags in a row as Joey Robb, Danny Maguire, Ciaran McCartney and Olly Duffin got their names on the score sheet. It took St. Brigids until the 27th minute to get off the mark when they converted 2 points in the last 3 minutes of the half to keep themselves in the game.
Some straight talking was done at half time to buck our boys up which seemed to do the trick as Kickhams went about the business of turning the screw by popping over the points on a regular basis.
Joey Robb got the first two of the second half, and an Olly Duffin minor was sandwiched between a pair of points from Ciaran McCartney. Joey and Ciaran traded another point apiece before St. Brigids made it up the field to peg a score on to their tally. Benny Devlin got in on the scoring when he split the posts for the home side and this was replied to with another Brigid’s score.
Just before the referee blew up the match 6 minutes early, Teddy had the final say on the game when he put over a great score.
The fact that St. Brigids were only limited to 4 points was down to good play by the defence as they dominated the visitors forward line all day long.
So it’s another 2 league points for Creggan in their quest for promotion as they remain unbeaten after 9 games with 18 points. Next up is a trip to Aldergrove on Sunday which is never an easy place to go but this side have their tails up and should be favourites to win the game.
