Glenavy 1-10
Kickhams Creggan 3-09
Creggan travelled to Glenavy to play this re-fixtured match on Saturday evening. The game was in doubt from the start as the official referee failed to show, so it was agreed by both parties that a home and visiting club person would officiate a half each. Creggan’s whistler was Dermot McCann who done a fine job. Thanks D.
Creggan produced a good first half display and were well worthy of their advantage at the break, 1-07 – 0-06. Benny Devlin getting the goal as himself and Joey Robb found themselves 2 on 1 with the Glenavy keeper.
A number of changes were made at half time with Sam and Benny Maguire replacing Declan Smyth and Mick Dougan. The second half was a tougher affair and scores were harder to come by. Goals win games, and Creggan got theirs at the vital times and ultimately proved to be the difference between the sides. Benny Devlin claimed a second from another assist from Joe Robb, and Joey bagged one of his own when he finished calmly to the net from a pass from Eunan McAteer.
All in all, this was a good win for Creggan as Glenavy were considered to be title contenders for Division 5 and they really had to win it to stay in contention for the league. Creggan now extend their advantage with the maximum of 16 points from 8 games played.
