Kickhams Creggan 2-08
St. Brigids 0-12
Creggan done the league double over St. Brigids at home on Saturday evening. Just like the corresponding fixture up at Harlequins earlier in the year, Creggan came from behind to snatch the points leaving St. Brigids with no time to come back.
On a heavy, sticky pitch as a result of the last few days rain, it was the visitors who got off to the better start. By the 15th minute they were 4 points to the good with Creggan finding their passing difficult against the stiff breeze. They eventually got on the score board when Oistin McAteer wormed his way along the bye line and hand passed the ball over the bar.
St. Brigids responded by tacking on another two unanswered points to extend their lead further and were looking comfortable for their advantage. Creggan got right back in to the game however when Charlie Devlin fired to the net after strong work in the big square from Mark Dougan.
Kickhams couldn’t capitalise on the goal though and the visitors finished the stronger as they split the posts a further two times to end the first half in the lead.
Half Time – Kickhams Creggan 1-01, St. Brigids 0-08.
The men from the Malone Road started the second period just as they finished the first by pinging over another brace of points to extend their advantage further. It wasn’t looking good for the Green & Gold, but Mark Dougan cancelled out those scores by stroking over two frees to settle the team. St. Brigids replied with another point of their own to keep their score taking increasing and it was imperative now that the home side needed to dig in and start producing some football if they were going to get anything out of this game.
Each time the ball was fired in to the inside forward line Creggan’s forwards were getting fouled and Mark Dougan punished them every time by slotting over 3 points on the trot. Mark Anthony McNicholl got himself on the score sheet by firing over a sweet point and by this stage Creggan were most definitely dictating the game and were in the driving seat.
St. Brigids added a point late on but it was too little too late for them as Creggan saw out the remainder of the game and record a hard fought win.
