U16 Football League
24 July 2008
Kickhams Creggan 1-12
Dunloy 1-14
The U16s suffered their first league defeat of the season at the hands of Dunloy last Thursday evening. In what proved to be a high scoring encounter, Creggan were just edged out in the end when they just couldn't find the goal to steal the victory and claim the 2 points on offer. They were left to rue a missed penalty but no blame can be apportioned to the kicker (Conor McCann, number 9, son of Tommy, Mountshalgus Lane, should stick to the hurling) as he played great throughout the match.
It was 7 points apiece at half time with Martin Johnston, Matthew Nelson, Tiernan McLarnon and Mark Russell all among the scorers, with young Russell knocking over a couple of crackers with his left foot.
The second half was a similar nip and tuck affair with Conor McCann getting a great goal by winning a high ball in the square and driving through a number of challenges to plant to the net. Eventually though time ran out for the home side and they couldn't get the scores to turn the game in their favour.
Thanks to Big Pooh for putting a ween a ticks on a page to mark the scores and then trying to claim it as a match report......some chance....he'll have to do better than that!
