U16 B Shield Semi Final
14 July 2008
Rasharkin 3-06
Kickhams Creggan 5-11
A slight breeze with warm and dry conditions on a bank holiday Monday in
Rasharkin with just 15 players to do battle in a championship semi and three
new U14 debutants at this level was going to be a test for this team. With
different positional changes too due to player absence Creggan went one point down but with Charlie Nelson and
Ronan Devlin getting fouled at half forward, frees were converted by Conor
McCann and Charlie scored a point from play 30 meters from goal.
In an evenly contested first half, both teams were level at 0-06 (Creggan) to 1-03 (Rasharkin) before a ground pull to the net by Ferghal Shivers was again cancelled out with a further Rasharkin goal to bring the game to half time. Rasharkin 2-03, Creggan 1-08.
At the start of the second half, a point from Conor and another ground pull goal by Kevin Rice put Creggan 6 points up, 2-09 to 2-03, but in a five minute spell Rasharkin scored 1-03 to level the game 2-09 to 3-06. Creggan kept working hard up front and when Dannan took a great individual point, followed by three well worked Conor McCann goals, rasharkin heads went down.
Again Conor had the last say when he converted a 65m. Good performances by new boys Charlie, Ronan and Conleath McGrenaghan, consistent defending from Matthew and Declan, and Martin covered a lot of the field; and in the forwards Conor, Kevin and Ferghal played well to ensure a final meeting with St. Endas.
Creggan Scorers: Conor McCann (3-07), Ferghal shivers (1-0), Kevin Rice (1-0), Aidan McKeown (0-01), Martin Johnston (0-01), Charlie Nelson (0-01), Dannan O’Hara (0-01)
