Creggan Minors make it 3 in a row

Creggan Kickhams (pictured) three weeks ago won the All County Minor Football League for a 3rd successive year. They produced another fine side in 2017 and completed the league season losing only a single game. With a number of players gaining County recognition there are great hopes that the production line of senior footballers will continue. Coached and mentored by Ciaran McCartney, Martin & Sean McCann, John Anthony Quinn and Séamus Duffy, they are hopeful that their Championship challenge will also prove successful.

Mentor Séamus Duffy highlighted the additions to the management team and the boys’ hard work this year as key to the team’s development. “We work hard with these boys from about the age of 15 and gradually introduce them to good nutrition, strength and conditioning work that is suitable for their age group and then get them outside to work on the skills and tactical sides of the game. Our aim is always to produce lads who can progress to play senior football for Creggan and a number of them have this year but it is always nice to win trophies along the way so to win 3 league titles in a row is great for them.” Enjoyment of the game is key to being a good footballer but we always make sure that the lads are working hard at their studies as well as that 16-18 year age group are at a key point in their educational life. The group has a number of MacCrory Cup winners this year so they have helped develop the younger boys and make us that bit stronger”.
