The Ramble Inn Intermediate Camogie Championship final 2015

Loughgiel 1-14 Creggan 2-06 from Ahoghill 29-08-15

These two teams served up a first class game of camogie that would have done credit to the senior championship on a warm, breezy afternoon in Ahoghill. Holders Loughgiel started out as favourites to retain their title and always looked like winning it as the game progressed ,but a young Creggan side fought them every inch of the way in a gripping encounter which began badly for them as Loughgiel ran up an early tally of 1-03 before Creggan responded with a Fiona Maguire free. Therese McKinley, Hannagh Devlin, and Christine Laverty led an all out attack on Creggan's defence which owes a debt of gratitude to County minor goalkeeper Una McKeown who was brilliant throughout the game ,showing steady hands, great anticipation and intelligent distribution, although she could do little about McKinley's early goal. Megan Boyle ,who showed boundless energy throughout the game, put two frees over the Creggan bar with great confidence to push Loughgiel further ahead. T he game evened out , however, as the first half developed with Ciara Dobbin taking two fine points from play for the Shamrocks and Fiona Maguire responding for Creggan by converting a free and a `45 followed by a long range point from play put over by Ciara McCollum. Referee Ryan O'Reilly allowed the game to flow freely and there was excitement at both ends of the pitch. Creggan had a good spell of possession where former senior county stars Eleanor McConville and Ruby Marie Rice inspired a revival of sorts but without producing much needed scores. Half-time score Loughgiel 1-07 Creggan 0-04

The Shamrocks came out of the dressing rooms for the second half and surged forward determined to finish Creggan off and early points from Laverty and Devlin were soon followed by Boyle's third point from a placed ball. Creggan were still unbowed and following a couple of substitutions were rewarded with a fine goal from full forward McCollum who was proving a handful for the Loughgiel backs. Martine McCann, another county minor star , made some great solo runs from midfield for Creggan showing the potential of their young team but the best point of the game was taken soon after by Shamrocks left corner forward Hannagh Devlin who was a constant thorn in Creggan's side. Boyle successfully converted her fifth free of the game soon after , but Creggan refused to concede defeat and a courageous McCollum added another goal ,brushing aside the frantic challenges of the Shamrock defenders to slam it home. Time ran out however for the girls in green and Loughgiel finished as deserved winners with a final score of Loughgiel 1-14 Creggan 2-06.
